Michael Miller Challenge Fabric

It's here! Yesterday I received our guild's allotment of Michael Miller fabric.

It is a much larger print than I thought, I like it!  The downside is that I have to cut it into fat eighths, which since I hate cutting fabric, will take me until at least the next meeting. Any volunteers?

This fabric will go to each IMQG member that paid their dues by the February meeting. That's 33 people!

Guidelines

  • The challenge runs from March 2014-June 23, 2014.
  • Winners announced July 8, 2014
  • Members may make anything they want as long as it is quilted!
  • Add in any solid or Michael Miller printed fabric.
  • You do not need to use all the fabrics given to you.
  • Upload and share your photos to the Fabric Challenge Forum on the Community site.
  • MQGs can create guild specific challenges, as long as the other guidelines are upheld.
  • Don’t forget to use the #mqgfabricchallenge on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter!
  • See the members Community site for sign ups.
  • Fabric sign ups end Feb 28th, 2014

A note from Michael Miller:

This year we will pick 3 winners. Each one will receive a posting on our blog and “A year of Free Fabric”.  Every month for a year we will send you a “Goody Box”  filled with fabric from our newest collections.
Okay read that one again. A whole year of fabric! How fantastic is that…
We cannot wait to see what you make! Have questions? Email Jen.
Check out the last Michael Miller fabric challenge winners here.

Okay everyone, start planning your project!!!

Cash Mob at Sew Green in Ithaca

(from SewGreen's newsletter)

CASH MOB BENEFITS SEWGREEN

Drop some cash, build your fabric stash, and save stuff from the trash at SewGreen’s cash mob bash! SewGreen needs your support to keep its reuse, education, and youth programs going strong. Join us for a day of free activities, snacks, classroom tours, a silent auction, and special deals from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday, March 22. A cash mob is a variation of a flash mob, an informal gathering that grows through social networking for the enjoyment or support of a mutual interest. SewGreen is honored to be the first organization chosen to be “cash mobbed” by the Sustainable Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Network (The SEEN), whose membership includes businesses, not-for-profits, and entrepreneurs looking to build a more sustainable and environmentally-safe economy.

Check their website, www.crcfl.net, or call 607-277-0960 for more information.

3. There was some discussion as to what we will be doing with Starry Night. (See note below.)Kathy Gehring will check on possible downtown Ithaca First Friday locations. Those who did make an 8”x10” quilt with their SN fabrics, in their own quilting style, will be able to show those with SN. It is not too late to make yours, we may not get a venue until May, June or later.

4. Sew dates - waiting for information updates from those checking venues.

5. It was suggested that members check out the Community Arts Partnership (artspartner.org) and consider applying to show your art/quilt in the upcoming Rhythm & Rhyme show. Deadline for applications is March 31, 2014. This is a juried show. Fee: $15.00.  Artists must live in Tompkins or contiguous counties.

 6. Anya shared helpful insights on the quilt show application process. (Keep trying! It’s worth it!)

7. Members were also encouraged to check 6x6 at Rochester Contemporary Art Center. www.roco6x6.org. All donated art is accepted and offered for sale at $20.00.

8. Once again many beautiful quilts and parts of quilts, were brought in for show & tell. Thank you for sharing!

The meeting ended at 2:30 P.M.

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION, FROM NANCY, PROGRAM CO-CHAIR, WAS SHARED WITH ME AFTER OUR MEETING:
Our Starry Night will not be part of the Friends of the Library fundraiser/sale.
They have another quilt that they are raffling off from now through their fall book sale. We will attempt to set up a First Friday showing for “Starry Night” and some smaller works from our group. Next month please bring ideas for how we can use Starry Night to raise funds for IMQG.
